Tour Overview

From Buddhism to Hinduism to Sikhism, the Indian religious beliefs are as varied and diverse as India itself. Join us for this exciting journey to explore major cultural and spiritual centres of Indian ,while exploring the distinct natural beauty of Himalayas and holy river Ganges.

Brief Itinerary

 
Day 1: Delhi
Arrive in Delhi ,here are no panned activity today. Delhi, India’s capital is an exciting and bustling city with tons of historic sights , museum,galleries and endless bazaars.  There is group meeting in the Evening followed by an optional group dinner.

Day 2: Delhi
On the morning city tour we explore the old quarters of this bustling city. We visit the Jama Masjid and the vibrant Chandni Chowk and Spice Market. Evening free to further explore many treasures of this historic city. Evening catch sleeper train to Amritsar.

Day 3: Amritsar
Amritsar, literally meaning "holy pool of nectar", is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh Religion. Visit its numerous shrines and temples, including the famous Golden Temple. In evening we drive to Pakistan boarder town to Baga to witness the boarder ceremony.

Day 4: Norbulinka
Travel to Norbulingka. This institute in an effort to promote and preserve Tibetan culture in exile. The Institute, situated near Dharamsala, promotes the traditional arts and literary studies of Tibet. We stay overnight in the simple guesthouse attached to the Institute and take a guided tour to gain insight into rare Tibetan customs and Culture.

Day 5 & 6: Daramsala/McLeod Gang
We make our way further along the Himalayan mountain roads towards Dharamsala, the seat of the Tibetan government in exile. Sometimes known as "Little Lhasa" after the Tibetan capital city, Dharamsala is home to generations of Buddhist monasteries.

Day 7: Mandi
This ancient Himalayan town served as major trade centre and houses more than 500 temples. Walk around its paved alleyways to explore this exciting historic town with wooden houses and temples and of cause vibrant bazaars. We stay in the palace of former royal family of Mandi.

Day 8 & 9: Simla
Travel on the Kalka-Shimla Toy Train, en route to the Himalayan hill town of Shimla, the former summer capital of the British Raj. The railway is the greatest narrow gauge engineering feat in India.

Day 10 & 11: Rishikesh
Experience the feeling of spiritualism and all that India is known for - from the holy Ganges, evening Arti by the banks of the Ganga river, plethora of temples with its sadhus, yoga and ashrams. We stay in a comfortable Ashram which runs a school for marginalize children. During your stay here you can join for daily Yoga, Meditation and prayer sections.

Day 12: Haridwar / Afternoon train to Varanasi
Take a short drive to Haridwar. Translated as "Gateway of Heaven" , this city is one of the most sacred for Hindu's. Later we  catch a sleeper train to Varanasi

Day 13 & 14: Varanasi
Arriving today into legendary Varanasi, the quintessential Indian holy city. Walk the narrow twisting alleys, poke around some of the literally thousands of temples and shrines, and experience the energy of the dawn rituals of bathing along the ghats.

Day 15: Varanasi / Overnight train to Delhi
Free day to further explore this ancient holy city. Take a excursion to Sarnath an important Buddhist Pilgrimage. Catch a sleeper train to Delhi.

Day 16: Delhi / Tour ends
Arrive into Delhi in the morning and transfer to a centrally located hotel where we have a couple of rooms for you to use until midday, when the trip finishes

Local Payment: There is a local payment of USD 200 attached to this trip. It should be paid on day 1 of the tour to your trip leader in Cash/Travellers Cheque in US $ or INR.

Fitness level (1): These trips are a normally relaxing break. These trips does not involve any activities which are physically demanding but still need to be in good health as intensive walking is engaged while sightseeing and other optional activities.

Delhi – Half day city tour around Chandni Chowk and Jama Mosque including transport, cycle rickshaw tour to Spice Market; Amritsar- Visit to Golden Temple and evening boarder ceremony; Norbulinka Inst- Guided tour to the institute; Dhramsala- Dalai Lama Temple, Tibetan Museum and Children Village; Mandi- Guided walk to explore ancient temples and wooden houses; Simla- Orientation walk to the Mall and Visits to Viceregale Lodge; Varanasi- Morning boat ride, walking tour to old city, Mother India Temple and evening ceremony, excursion to Sarnath

“Hotel Florence Inn” is located in Karol Bagh market area, Opposite New Bloom School on a link road between “Ajmal Khan road and “Saraswati Marg. The hotel is surrounded by a mix of local vendors, shops and small restaurants. It is 20 minutes by auto rickshaw (INR 50-60 with bargaining) to get to the heart of New Delhi, Connaught Place. Cannought Place offers tons of India and multi- cosine restaurants, branded cloth store, books, medical and convenience shops.


Single travellers

As part of Escape Voyages core philosophy, we do not charge a single supplement. You'll probably be sharing your accommodation with a travelling companion of the same gender, your tour will probably have a strong social element and you'll almost certainly come home with some great new friends
